|
|
| i've got a mim deluxe players strat... sounds good... the pickups are noiseless and arent my favorite... i've also got a ds-1.. and a peavey rage 128 that is missing one of the input jacks.. so my guitar is decent.. but my amp is crap... i've thought about the peavey valveking 112 and may get it.. but i want to know what will give me the sound of bands like "the cribs", or "franz ferdinand" i'm only a teenager and these bands are popular and liked by my friends and future band members and the effects seem straightforward... i just wanna know whats the best option for a indie sound... |

For the "British High Gain" you are asking about, you would want a
Vox or Marshall [sound]. BUT I do suspect that the Peavey you are looking
at will suffice for a some time if budget is an issue. You can always use a
pedal or 2. |

thanks... specifically what would be better.. i hear the vox valvetronix is partly tube... only the preamp uses one tube.. does that sound good in your opinion.. i will definetely try one out.. i think i'm going to a samash store tomorrow to get some strings and a setup... and get my old ibanez checked up on... i'm definetely not worrying myself with a marshall.. i've researched the vox.. i think i even played it.. im not sure... but its got way to much effects and if the effects did run down the price.. would i be better with some other 100% tube? |

Since you asked, and I'll probably get shunned from the community -
buddy, if it sounds good to you, then use it! If I were to get a hybrid amp
I would get one with a solid state preamp and tubes for the power stage.
The Vox you described is opposite - but thats just me. You're going to the
store, right? try 'em out! And look for that odd looking amp thats half way
hidden in the corner, try that one out too - you might be surprised.
You sound kind of unsure about it all. Go and play some amps. Write down
the model numbers of the ones you like, go home and research them.
Then after you think you have made a decision, go back to the store and
play it again. Don't make a multi-hundred dollar mistake, eh |

You are really pushing my memory on this one
I know Peavey had/has some models that did that.
Musicman had some models that did it too.
You might want to also check out the line 6/Bogner amps. I've never had
the opportunity to see one / play one - but they look nice. I did have a
line 6 (solid state modeling) one time, and certainly did NOT like it - but
with a Bogner designed 6L6 power stage, it looks very interesting too me.
Just some food for thought. |

ok.. i'm gonna sell my ibanez... and my xbox 360... and save up some money.. buy a 300 dollar cab by avatar(the orange replica one) and then go after a good head... maybe the orange tiny terror head(*Holy Censor, Batman* the tiny terror is 600 or so)... that would make me real happy... but i'm gonna look at amps you mentioned to save some money... do you know any amps that are orange clones for cheap? that would be nice... thank you.... i'm pushing your memory more now.. |

| i tryed the peavey valveking112.. a krank head in a randall cab.. a marshall cab 1960 with a good name brand head(cant remember name).. i played the strat vg and its nice... i played on a valveking half stack.. i played an esp/ltd ec500... and a fender jazz bass... i then tried a epi jumbo i dont know if it was a humingbird.. but it had one of the bridges like a humingbird... im not even sure if epiphone makes humingbirds.. i played on high end martin.. and an decent ovation... i was in their for two hours or so... but i did my research.. i've tried some really good amps and half stacks.. but i can only hope to get the valveking 112... and i compared my playing and i'm much happier playing acoustic.. i think i'm better at it.. but i have been playing acoustic for more then a year or so.. and only on electric for 3 months... so i'm a newbie alltogether.. but i'm happy with my playing on that epiphone.. the strat vg was fun too... thanks for your help.. and just like my choice in the beginning i'm just gonna go with a valveking 112.. its a good size and it is pretty loud just on 2 but i still may just keep working on buying a kit for cheap.. and building a nice wooden box the head in.. then buy my cab from avatar... |
