Hey guys this is a great site. lots of info. Curios question. I have a combo amp that I am not using right now. Would it hurt it to put it in the attic with the heat(I live in Texas). I am trying to make room for a baby and our house is kind of small. Love the site and look forward to checking more out

Dang, am I the only one posting answers? Very Happy A friend was given an old Silvertone that had sat out in a poorly sealed shed for many years. The rain couldn't get to it but the heat, cold and dust sure could. I vacuumed about 5 pounds of dirt and spider webs out of it, did a complete service job and it worked good. The filter caps were bad but that was from sitting so long unplayed.

So if I were to wrap it in something I might be alright.

I have my moments Wink
(granted, I spend most of my time in the Fender section Cool

tas9195 - Humm.. I wouldn't wrap it - capturing moisture thus mold would
be my concern. I'd just say a sheet (cotton?) over it would be ok - but age and
non-use takes its toll on capacitors regardless - so after the long term
storage, check'em out before you start using it again.

Yeah that makes sense with the sheet. It probably wouldn't be too long term just until I can make some room in the house

Badabing, it's a boy. My first. It only took only 35 years to have one.

Congrats on the baby. It's the toughest job you'll ever love.

As for the amp, try to turn it on every now and then. It will keep the caps from degrading. If you can't do that, be sure to bring up the voltage slowly (over an hour or so) on a variac (variable AC source). This will reform the caps. Covering it with a sheet is a good idea.
