Fender 75 combo

Fender 75 model combo. Amp is 75 watts rms. The current speaker is a Peavey Scorpion. I have not used the amp in years but I was never happy with the speaker. I would like to replace it with something maybe a Celestion. Any thoughts/recommendations? Should I replace it with a 75 watt speaker or something higher or lower. The current speaker is 150 watts I think. Which model speaker would be good for this amp. I have seen Celestion speakers on their website that run from 25- 150 watts. There are also lots of different models to choose from. Also someone recommended Eminence speakers. Don't know much about them. Thanks for the help.

Get a speaker at least 75 watts or more, not less.
I've had good luck with Eminence. I like the 'swamp thang' and
the 'texas heat' models, but thats just my personal opinion - they
might not match what you are looking for. Eminence does have
sound samples on thier site.. hint hint. Wink

The Patriot Series are designed for the American type amps and the Redcoats are made for the British type amps. The Eminience have a higher output and generally cost a little less than the Chinese speakers.

You can e-mail the CS people at Eminience. They are very helpful and can direct you to what you want.

+1 on Eminence's customer support. Very helpful and courteous. I can recommend the Red White and Blues as well as the Cannabis Rex speakers. Great for blues and old rock n roll.

Hi thanks for the help. Are the Celestion speakers made in the US or are they made in Asia? I am looking for a British Classic Rock sound. I always heard that the Celestion was the one for that. I'll check out the Eminence further.

I have been reading a little on the different speakers. I see that the eminence speakers have a high sensitivity, some of them over 100db. Is it better to have a higher number? From what I've read if you have a two speakers of the same wattage rating and one has a higher sensitivity then the one that is higher will actually be louder. Is this an important consideration when comparing? Thanks

Dude the speaker that longs to be inside that amp is the Celestion Mesa MC90.

Well the amp is not stock as it is now. The speaker that is in there is a Peavey Black Shadow. I am unhappy with the speaker as is. I might have been confused about which sound I am looking for though. I think I referred to the sound as British Classic Rock but I sort of meant the sound of the older bands in the 60's and 70's. So that would probably be considered more American I guess.

Fair enough.

I played at a gig last night with one of my 75s and mine exhibits really nice natural tube break up (distortion) from mid volume levels and up. If you are looking for a super clean sound, then I'd suggest not turning it up too far.

I'm not sure where the Celestion speakers are made now, but I always thought they were originally from England.

Do you have the 75 combo or the head and cab? There are not too many of them around anymore. I think that it is a great amp. What does the polarity switch do for you? I know that it is supposed to be able to reverse the polarity so that you don't have opposite polarity from another piece of equipment but mine seems to do nothing. This is the three position switch with the a/off/b setting on the back. Thanks
