Hey guys, i'm looking for a tube head and i have no idea what i should get, there are so many choices but i really need an amp that will last and is versatile.
I play different styles of music but i am mainly into soloist guitarist such as paul gilbert, andy timmons (i would love to get the sound they have in one amp!) amongst a list of others. I basically need a head that will allow me to have great gain but also be able to cope with clean and low gain.
I know this is a difficult question to ask but i'm really stuck with what to get, so any advice would be greatly appreciated.
thanks |

Hi Racer X,
Here is my two cents worth as for one of the most versitile amp:
The LUCKY 13 is basically two amps in one. It is designed for the guitarist who wants the SOLDANO overdrive tone, and also wants a classic “vintage“ super clean tone, both with reverb. Each channel has it’s own tone and reverb controls. The Overdrive channel has preamp and master volume controls. Any level of gain and overdrive is available at any volume level. The Clean channel has a single volume control.
I've been a Soldano user for years and as a native Seattlite, I have the ability to visit his shop!
Best wishes on your hunt,
Troy |

got losts i could suggest... but the big thing is.. how much do you want too spend? $100 to $400?, $1000 to $1400?, $1400 to $2000?, and up and up (yep.. kinda endless). More than happy to give a few suggestions if you can give us an idea of what kinda outlay your thinking of..
Not really a huge gilbert fan.. but didnt he use Laney amps? i may be totally wrong.. i have an old Laney..err.. Pro 100 or something.. not sure off the top of my head.. (i have several amps of varous brands)... not my favorite.. but definatley has its charms..
the $$$ you want to spend is kinda important to what we can suggest.. some cheaper stuff is better (in my opinion) to pricier amps, but give us a range.. |
