I have been living in North America an am returning to Australia. I just bought a new fender vibro champ amp, can anyone tell me how to convert it to 240v without having to buy a step down converter the size of a house brick?

Thanks

I don't see a way around it. The amp wants 120, and you'll have 240.
either a - get the step down transformer and convert the 240 to 120 or
b - replace (rewire???) the power transformer for the 240 (so the amp
will then be (re)designed for an input of 240)

I'm not saying there isn't another way, I'm just saying I don't know it.
Good luck with your move.

Is it a major job to replace the power box? I've only had it for a few months so if I sell it used i won't get much for it. Besides I like it, great practice amp.

Thanks

This is where I falter on things - theory I'm decent at, but the only amps
I work on are mine, so I don't have a lot of practical experience. I know
when I shop power transformers, a lot of them have mains for 120 OR 240
and the builder would just wire them accordingly. If the power trans. in your
amp has the main leads for 240 - then it'd be simple - just change a few
wires, and there you go. If not, well.... I'm sure there is a transformer
somewhere in the world, but finding a drop in (same mounting hole
positions, bell size, etc.) replacement , that might be a bit of a chore.

Yeah I think I'll just take it. At worse I'll just have to get a step down converter.

Thanks for the help
