|
|
Hi,
I recently bought an old 68 twin reverb, that for the most part sounds very great... but to my ear, a little bit treble heavy, and is missing some of the depth my old twin had before it was stolen. It has the stock Jensen speakers that come in all the new Re-issues, and one of them is now blown. I initially repaired it, but was at a gig yesterday, and it blew again, so now I am thinking it is time to replace the speakers... Any advice.
I want rich, deep, bassy depth and also cutting twang.
All advice appreciated!! |

whewwwww... ...a mega watt amp
if your amp is an original 1968 twin reverb, to the best of my recollection, it probably didn't come with Jensen speakers as stock.... 1968-1976 models were loaded with 2 x 12"/4 ohms (8 ohms each in parallel) Oxford 12T6, Utah 12", Rolad 12" or Gauss 12"... if it did somehow have Jensens, it was the C12N model......OR....if you're saying the original speakers have been replaced with the speakers from a recent re-issue....then it probably does have Jensens in it probably the new C12N reissues--or P12N alnico which sounds alot better IMO.
Either way, you can certainly improve on them......
lately i've purchased from here---> http://warehousespeakers.com/index.php and i must say they are every bit as good as my Eminence-Weber & Celestion speakers---they are just like the descriptions say.....once they're broke in----but then the big buck speakers needed breaking in to sound their best as well....i'm thinking seriously of selling all my present speakers & replacing them with the WHS speakers and use the extra money to have another Lopo Line 2x12 verticle cab built
I also have a new 12" 15 watt Scumnico speaker & shows promise to give me a great 60s sound once it has some more playing time on it ---> www.scumbackspeakers.com ----it's already gonna be a keeper...
goodluck in your search....let us know what you end up doing _________________ ~T~...Live a little >crank it up< ...

They are not the original speakers, but are the ones that come stock in all the newer models. They are Jensens... The amp is from January of 1968. Also may look to replace the reverb tank at some point..
I am interested in those speakers. Unfortunately, I am not too savy as far as what sort of wattage I am going to need. The 65's sound good based on description, and they are affordable. However, I am not sure if they are a good fit with my amps specs...
I have a lot to learn... |

I had JBL D-120's in my '69 Twin Reverb. Much richer than the Jensens. Also very expensive if you can find them now. _________________ Yer guitar pickin' friend,
