Hi folks
I've just bought a USA made fender hotrod.I've got a blues deluxe but wanted a bit more gain in the drive channel.I think the overdrive sounds great however the amp hasn't got as much bottom end as my blues deluxe. It's a lot more trebley. The amp is about 6-7 years old so it could just be the valves need changing. Can anyone who has a hot rod or knows about them tell me what valves I should get.I play 60's 70's rock/blues.I like my "clean" channel slightly broken up and a nice sustainy lead sound for solos etc.Any help is much appreciated.Thankyou. |

To be honest, I can't remember where I read it, but someone out there,
I had info regarding the usage of a different (not so desirable) speaker
after the works was moved from the US.
I have a early version of the HRD too - it has plenty of lows.
(The only thing that is not stock is my power tubes.)
let us know what you decide and the result, eh? |

I have some old GE tubes in there now.
(there is a hi-fi guy in town that buys lots of tubes, he seldom if ever needs
our standard guitar amp tubes, and I got lucky and bought 2 pairs of 6l6s,
2 pairs of 6v6's, and a couple rectifiers for only $40. Thats where these
tubes came from)
Before that I had a new pair of 'AllParts' 6L6's.
(I went to check out a relatively new, small, privately owned guitar store. I
like supporting small/local businesses and I would have felt like a jerk if I
wouldn't have bought anything, so I bought that set of tubes. Nothing to
write home about, but they certainly did the job. I still have them as I
wanted to try out the vintage tubes mentioned above.)
Before that - the original Fender branded tubes.
I bought the amp about a year ago(? - I'm pretty bad with time) used.
I'm not a 'tube snob' by any means if they sound ok and work, I'm
happy But every once in a while I like to switch things up and experiment. |
