Marshall MG50 DFX Problems

Hi i have had a Marshall MG50 DFX for about 3.5 years now and had no problems with it until about 12 months ago. Every now and then the sound output reduces destically so even at full volume you can barely hear the sound (it is louder when using distortion but still barely audible).
All of a sudden the sound will just come back on as normal but recently its been getting worse.

I took the amplifer part out of the combo box and tried it on another speaker with exactly the same effect which leads me to believe its not the speaker. Ive also tried different guitars and cable jacks but it makes no difference.

Has anyone experienced similar problems like this and has an idea of what it could be?

The MG series are known to have numerous problems, but maybe it is somethign simple causing this cut out. Try using a new instrument cable. I once had an amp that i thought was broken for about a year, until one day i plugged into it with a new cable and that is exactly what the problem was. If this doesent work, then try using a different guitar, perhaps a friends guitar or something. If none of these fix your problems, then you can surely assume it is the actual amp.

I have a MG 30DFX. It did the exact same thing you discribe. I took it to a local dealer and Marshall sent me a new one. Your amp should have a 5 year warranty. Good luck.

I have had the same problem with sound cutting out. I have had my amp for about 2 years when this started.

I have so far traced the fault on mine to the rear jack socket for the effects/overdrive channel pedal. Don't ask me why this is the cause because it makes no sense to me.

When the sound cuts out if you move the plug, in the socket, the sound comes back.

I have yet to take the amp apart again.

For all- try spraying some good quality contact cleaner (NOT WD-40!!) into the FX return jack, then plugging a 1/4" cable in and out a few times. and spray again. It's kinda the punk rock fix, but it will probably help until you can get that jack replaced.

If that doesn't do it, you've probably got soldering issues.
