I came across one of these combos for a really good price few months back, and even though it obviously needed some work, I bought it without a second thought based on the reputation that these amps have. It's one of the older ones with a 12AX7 phase inverter, although it's not one of the very earliest models since came with what look like the original 6l6 power tubes. As I understand it, the earliest MM's were set up with 6CA7's.

I've done a lot of cosmetic restoration this amp and have performed some minor repairs to the footswitch, reverb unit, and whatnot, all it needs now is a new set of tubes and it's ready for action. I have a pair of Svetlana EL34's on hand that I'd like to put in, so my question is this: can I swap out the 6l6's for EL34's, adjust the bias, and be OK? Or will this require some modification? Thanks!

Strange, I posted an anwer to this but it disappeared?

Power requirements for EL34's are very different than 6l6's. You would need to modify your amp extensively.
