| i was playing this amp that i'm thinking of buying from a friend, when the volume kept dropping to about half of what it was at, intermittantly. I shut it down and let the tubes cool and made sure none were loose, they seemed to be seated fine, powered it back up and the same thing kept happening. a slight rap on top of the head would bring it back to normal volume, then our bass player started plinking on the tubes while i played and this killed the volume altogether. the amp still powers up, tubes light up - no sound any suspicions out there as to what's wrong? |

bad tube or maybe a solder connection.
Impedance of the speakers matched what was expected though, right?
exluding the tube angle, you kinda described an output transformer going bad. |
