I wrote the post on converting a combo into a head,

The amp seems to be 100w, if I take that to gigs or practise rooms and stack it up for use on a cab which has a power rating of i.e. 400w is there going to be an issue with volume or quality of sound etc. for instance for use in slightly larger clubs without decent pa's (or soundpeople).

Conversely, would buying a larger watt amp say 300w blowup my mere 100w speaker?

There is nothing you need to worry about using your 100W amp with a
400W cab as far as volume or sound goes. I'm just guessing it is a solid
state amp, right? if so, you will get varying output power depending on
what impedance the cabinet is, but it will work the best when connected
to its designed load (8ohm, 4 ohm, or what ever). At least make an effort
to keep this right. If its a tube amp, get it right.

"...amp say 300w blowup my mere 100w speaker..."
Yep, it sure will blow........ the speaker that is Smile
Once the power reaches or exceeds the peak wattage the speakers are
designed to take, its only a matter of time.. and probably a short time...
very short.

Did you build the head cab yet?
