Hi, I'm looking to by a new amp and am interested in the Marshall AVT Series. I don't have a lot to spend, so I was originally thinking of the AVT50 Combo. However I'm not sure if it is worth paying extra, about £60 to £100 more, for the AVT100 Combo instead. The AVT100 seems to have a lot more effects and is obviously louder but is it worth the extra money (I have a tight budget) and is the tone any better?
One final thing, are the combo's are as loud as and have the same tone as the equivalent head version run through a cab?
Note: I'm using an Epiphone Les Paul Standard guitar and I play mostly rock music, such as Guns N' Roses, AC/DC that kind of stuff and will be using the amp for gigging.
Please get back to me as soon as possible with any help, it will be greatly appreciated |

OK,
I have been playing professionally for over 25 years and 30 years in total. I have both a Gibson Les paul standard and an epiphone les paul Standard. First the amp. I have an AVT50 signed by Jim Marshall himself and trust me, this amp is loud! I have a fender twin and I like the tone better on the AVT. I believe it has 1 tube in it but it is definaltely the way to go in my books. The AVT 100 your paying mainly for effects and they are not that great. You would be better off buying a digitech RP-250 pedal and you have your cry baby ( wah wah pedal) drum machine built in and a ton!!!!!!!!!!!!! of different amp sounds. From clean to ultra gritty.
Sometimes you get lucky when you buy a guitar and I did with my epiphone. I changed the pods to dimarzio as they are lifetime guarantee and better than Gibson, I changed the 3 way swithch as well. The big difference is the 1957 classic humbuckers I put in it. I honestly like it better than the Gibson les paul and for a $5-$600 guitar with the upgrades you have an amazing guitar. You have to kick it for it to go out of tune. I got lucky. |
