I am doing an A level project which i have chosen. I am going to design a triangular amplifier that stacks in a unique way. interlocking some upside down and some the right way up..if you get my drift. There will be a main amplifier that can be used on its own as a combo and it will connect with more triangular speaker cabs.

do you think this is a goods idea? is there a market for this product?

would you buy it?

any suggestions would be welcome.

plus do any of you know where to get amp componenets of the web?

Thanks

JB

That does sound like a unique idea. Is there any way you can post a drawing of what you had in mind? I've been away from amp repair for a few years and don't know what is still available. There are many sources of components and I'm sure someone will help you out on that part.

I havent got round to properly designing the amp yet so i have no diagrams. im thinking of having a tube preamp and a transistor power amp. probably 40W. in the master amp that is the one i will make for my project. does this sound sensible? i have no experience in amp building but i have some in electronics.

thanks [/img]

JB, the triangular shape cabinets is a new one on me. I'd like to see it sketched out. As far as the amps go, you would be hard pressed to come up with anything that hasn't been done 1000 times before. I've played through or owned several hybrids that had tube preamps/ transistor power amps or transistor preamps/ tube power amps and I really didn't care for the sound. I have a friend who is a much better guitarist than me who really likes the sound of my hybrid Legend. He keeps trying to buy it from me. (The Legend has a tube preamp and transistor power amp.)

As a one off, it could be fun to play around with the acoustics that such a shape would produce.

As for a market, my initial reaction - other than novelty and the initial impression it would create live - as a guitarist, I'd probably find it a nightmare to move around/store and that would be a reason for me not to own one.

That's without seeing the pics mind you Wink
