following are some of the companies i've had real good luck with building their kits
http://www.guytronix.com/
i've built the gilmore jr.-----excellent kit--excellent support---excellent amp with great sounds....i still have it & its a keeper....thinking about getting the 2 watt adaptor and trying out the V & M mods..as well as adding on the attenuator...just for the fun of it
http://www.stf-electronics.com/
built their little champish head kit.----this was the 1st amp kit i ever built & it was a fun project....don't have it anymore....my son borrowed it to use in his new apartment a few years ago & i don't think its coming back
http://www.ceriatone.com/index.htm
built their 18 watt TMB kit...the most complicated i've built but not that bad with help from folks at www.18watt.com ---great stuff--good company--good amp...as good or better than the real thing from the "M" company...good enough that one of my friends bugged me to sell it to him for so long that i finally let him have it ....i don't really have a use for that many watts anymore, so its just as well
anybody else tried their hand at building an amp ??? _________________ ~T~...Live a little >crank it up< ...

No, I've never tried my hand at kit building.
I've got an undergraduate degree in EET, so you'd think I would have put one together by now. Problem is that I don't have any bench equipment beyond a DVM, and I don't think that's gonna cut it for any kit with more than 20 parts.
But I can follow schematics and solder well - it's just the final adjustments I'm not sure about being able to do with limited equipment. |

No, I've never built one, yet. I do want to, but I've got enough projects begging for my time right now, so the amp build will have to wait a bit... _________________ "I love the smell of hot solder in the morning. It smells like victory." |

Hi guys,
I am really interested in building my own amp, that would be really cool, or modifying my Laney LC15R by changing the speaker and the cabinet to something more vintage. I am not a professional musician so this would be a fun project but what I would like to ask is what sort of tools besides a soldering iron one would need? Which kits do you recommend ( if UK specific, even better! ) and any ideas on where I could find cabinets suitable for a small amp like the LC15R?
Thanks! |

| Hey Owwda, that little STF Champ head looks cool. It doesn't look too difficult or expensive. I might even be able to pull it off. |

I have built 4 amps (or more technically 3 and a half.) the half was a
true ptp experiment to see if I could build amp #3 (amp #3 was a little
more complicated varsion of amp #2 <-- does all that make any sense at
all?)
So far, all my amps have been 18 watt amps. I have a small project coming
up (going to turn a Bogen 20 watt pa into a 1x12 amp - that'll happen
within the next month. After that, I have GRAND visions of a 6V6 or maybe
a 6L6 amp with a few bells and whistles.. but that one will take me a while,
as some learn'in is gonna be needed to get done, as my ideas exceed my
level of knowledge.... but I suspect I'll get it done... eventually.
But me, doing things the hard way all the time, I've never used a kit
And on the off chance that Zaphod B reads this.. all I have is a DVM and
a mid range soldering iron - it can be done! |

go on & give it a shot firedude....its a nifty little bugger & sounds really good thru a 12 or 15 inch speaker ( i had a 2x10 cab that it sounded good thru too--but i'm not much of a 10" fan )....its pedal friendly too......and a kick to build--the directions are easy---if i could do it, anyone can _________________ ~T~...Live a little >crank it up< ...
