I have some 12 inch woofers that I'm not using. I'm thinking about finding some decent horn tweeters and building some loudspeakers. I don't know much about electronics, so what if I wired them without a crossover? Would it still sound OK?, just not as good? Good crossovers are kind of expensive right? Thanks

Firedude!
So I take it an OK sounding PA speaker is more of a desire then an
expensive great sounding PA speaker? Thats how I would look at it Very Happy
Or do you want to go in the medium range of quality?

Ever look in the back of some older (70's) home speakers? The crossover
is small and simple, a couple caps, and not much else. You could
probably build them (2, one for each cab) for under $20 (and that includes
shipping if parts are ordered).

I may have some at home that I pulled, I'll look around for you. In the mean
time, I'm sure it wouldn't be hard to find a simple plan for some on the
internet. Pro quality, maybe not, but for home/simple use, sure!

I'll keep you posted on what I find.

Hey T-dub,

No, I'm not trying to get pro-audio results, just something that sounds OK. If not using a crossover will work and sound alright, I'll do that. I assume that the highs just won't be as defined, is that right?

You will also be throwing some low frequencies into the horns that they may not be able to handle. Good way to make their little diaphragms go "poof"! Mad

Poof, aye? That doesn't sound good. I saw some crossovers at the Parts Express site that look pretty easy to use. Maybe I'll try something like that.
