i just bought the crate gt412 guitar cabinet and i am wondering if i can play my glx65 through it. i am pretty sure my glx65 is 4 ohm. but i dont know how many ohms my cab is. can i play my 4 ohm combo amp through a 8 ohm or 16 ohm cabinet? someone please help.

The glx65 is a 1x12 correct? what impedance is the speaker in the cab?
that will tell you what the amp is expecting if you don't know.
If you don't know what the impedance of the speaker cabinet is, just
take an ohm meter and measure it. If its a closed back, just plug a cable
into the input jack and take your reading at the other end of the cable.

The amp is solid state so yes, it has more felxability on runing different
impedances as opposed to a tube amp, but genderally you will not get
the same (best?) tone. Also the power of the amp will not be the same
(the 65W will be reduced if it is expecting a 4ohm load and you use an 8
ohm cabinet, and even less if you use a 16 ohm cab.).

Correct it is a 1x12. the speaker cab says it has selectable impedance. (i dont know what that is, if you know could you please tell me) It has Celestion Seventy 80 speakers. It is closed back and i dont know where i could get an ohm meter. (probably guitar center?) If i plug my 4 ohm combo into a 16 ohm cab wont my combo blow?

Here is a link to your manual.
http://www.crateamps.com/product/manuals/GLX65_120_212.pdf
(suggested reading if you haven't already - I am NOT a manual reader,
but with music equipment I find it helpful more often then not)

First, an ohm meter (or multi meter) - radio shack or I bet someone you
know has one (or has access to one). Apparently, the amp is stock with
an 8 ohm speaker. As I hinted twords in the last post, but I'll be direct this
time - impedance matches are not as important with solid state equipment
as with tube amps. tube amps, if ran long enough with improper impedance,
you can ruin your output transformer. With solid state amps, you will either
reduce the wattage put to the speakers AND/OR you may notice a reduced
quality of the tone. Its a good idea to stay kinda close to the design, but
there is a lot more give in SS amps as far as this goes.

"selectable impedance" - there is a switch right near the input jack
that allows you to select the impedance of the cabinet - simple as that.

If I were you, I would set the cabinet for "4 ohms mono" and do not
manually disconnect the 12" speaker in the combo.

oh. you can set how many you want the cab to be at? i am not completely sure hows cabs are set up. i dont have mine at my house yet. it should be here by this tuesday. i have already read the manual for my glx65 and didnt find anything helpful. so if i can set my cabinet at 4 ohms it wont be a problem anyways will it.
