hey. im 14 and im an intermediate player.
i LOVE music. i listen to things like instrumental technical progressive stuff.
i wanna sound somewhat like this band:
www.myspace.com/scalethesummit
their lead guitarist Chris, is my guitar teacher.
he plays an Engl powerball 100 head, and an orange 412 cab. with a Conklin 8 string.
and also a bit like coheed and cambria, and the chili peppers type stuff.
k so,
i have 1100 to spend on a stack. i am already set on an orange 2x12 cab.
so i have about 600 left to spend on a head. TUBE.
which is better of these four, for the sound im trying to get??
-Peavey Windsor 100 Tube head
-Peavey Classic 30 Tube head
-Peavey Valveking 100 Tube head
-Crate V30H 30W Tube head |

$500 bucks for a 2x12 cab! Yikes. What are they putting in there? Gold? I'd check out www.avatarspeakers.com. I've heard nothing but raves about their stuff. And, I know they have orange tolex as an option. I build my own cabs cause I'm cheap. But, unless they're putting two eminence red fang speakers in there, you're prolly gettin jipped.
Now, for the head: If all you'll ever want is metal tone, go with the valveking. The others are alot more versatile. But, I would plan on spending alot of time in the loud lounge at your local music store trying them all out. They are all quality amps. You'll have to hear to decide. But, save some bucks on your cab. I have a feeling that you'll be wanting some pedals, too. With 1100 bucks to spend, you can have the rig of a lifetime. Be patient. Also, if you get your rig home and don't think it's all it should be, don't be afraid to return it. You're dropping big bucks. You should get exactly what you want. Good luck! |

Orange, like several other manufacturers, charge several hundred just for the logo plate. To some, it's worth the cost to show off that plastic piece. To others, it's insanity. _________________ "I love the smell of hot solder in the morning. It smells like victory." |

All of them are good. Do some research and choose what will best suit your style. Good luck!

| You've got to plug them in and rock. You will be able to feel which is right for you. |

Dont ever take the first price a shop gives you.
Always ask for a "best price" and tell them you are shopping around for the best price. |

Peavey ValveKing VK100
Best value for the dollar and will do everything but EXTREME metal
Cabinet is a matter of taste Avatar make good cabs at reasonable prices
Don't be foolish, don't believe the hype, shop smart and listen.
