Hey.. I've been having lots of trouble with my Marshall Valvestate 8040.. FIrst the distortion channel didn't work, so I replaced the autotransformer, but now the volume still fluctuates (it did it before the transformer replacement too).. It will be so quiet that you can't hear, and them come in blaring.. Happens in both channels, so it's not just the pots.. ANy ideas? Thanks a lot!

I've seen problems like this caused by a loose or corroded input jack. Johnny K, it's time to break out the crescent wrench and check the lock nuts on the jacks. While your at it, see if the knobs are held on by an allen set screw, or just pull off. Anyway, it wouldn't hurt to remove the knobs and check the nuts on them. Don't tighten them too much. Just good and snug. Also make sure the pre-amp tubes have good tension on the pins.

Hey.. No, it's nothing like that, (as I had it open to do some soldering for the autotransformer).. Just wondering if there is anything specific in those amps that would cause my problem?
