Hello,
I recently bought a brand new MG15CD amp and am very pleased with it. Just recently however I noticed that whenever I turn off the amp and even sometimes when I turn it on, it makes a loud popping noise. What is it? Is it bad for it? Any help or suggestions are appreciated-

Welcome to the forum! Could be the speaker cones jumping from the surges. Turn the amp volume to 0 before turning off, and have it on 0 when you turn it on, see if that cures the "pop". I have to do that with my big PA system so the amp's surges when coming on and going off doesn't blow speakers. _________________ Yer guitar pickin' friend,

| Thanks for the welcome! Well, that didn't do anything; I turned everything down and it still makes the loud popping noise... |

Then I would suggest taking it to your dealer's recommended tech for warranty inspection and work. Loud pops are never good. Could be a static discharge from a capacitor or something as simple as a cold solder ground connection failing. Whatever it is, I would think it should be covered by warranty and repaired for you. _________________ Yer guitar pickin' friend,

After they try to convince you that nothing is wrong with it, they will probably just exchange it for another one and send yours to the junk shop - uh, I mean scratch and dent store in Kansas City where it will be sold to some unsuspecting sucker as a blem. MF doesn't have a repair shop.
Thanks, ~T~, I'm happy you invited me over! _________________ Yer guitar pickin' friend,

Fender SS amps have this problem too, it's likely the power switch that has built up a bit of carbon on the internal contacts. It's not a problem and will likely happen again if you get it fixed.
Try this, unplug the amp instead of using the switch to see if it pops, I'll bet it does not.
