Hello all. I'm new to this forum (just found it searching for marshall amps!)
I have a general question about Marshalls. I currently have a Fender M80 and it's going downhill fast (it was given to me). I was wanting to purchase a Marshall, but I'm not sure exactly which one to buy. Here's some background: I play in a church band...mostly praise songs, etc, but I use distortion in most of the songs (except for the acoustic). I have a Epi Les Paul that I just purchased (love it!). I'm looking for an amp that has a good clean sound but will pump out a great distortion sound as well. I'm also running everything through these pedals: a Boss CS-3 (compressor/sustainer), Digitech multi effects, Boss DS-1, and a Boss NS-2. I have considered the AVT50,Valvestate vs100 and the MG series, but not sure. Thanks for the help!

Welcome, Tarheel. I'd say go with the best amp you can afford. The MG series has a rep for meltdowns with the effects side and channels blowing out. They don't seem to be the most reliable Marshalls. Given the fact that you have plenty of effects already, I'd suggest looking for a used tube combo on Ebay or used gear dealer. JCM900s are still very cheap and sound good. Get the best heart for your gear that you can, as that's where the tone starts. Tube amps sound better than solid-state.

Thanks! I was beginning to think no one would reply. I haven't heard that about the MG series...thanks! I've been searching eBay for a while now for a good deal on a tube amp. Guess I'll just have to wait for the right one to come around..thanks for the response!

Good luck with whatever you find. Yes, things tend to get a slow in here and you may end up waiting quite some time for a response, unfortunately.

Well, I bought a Marshall VS-100. We'll see how it sounds when I get it. Picked it up from eBay for $183...figured I couldn't go wrong with that kinda price.
