He guys I have a weird question about a black back speaker I have. I am running 4 orginal black back speakers from 1976 in my 4 12 cab. I only got the cab 4 months ago and never had time to take the back off and have a look at the speakers until today. Well one speaker has a tear right through the cone 3 inchs long. The strange thing is the speaker works and sounds fine. Mabe it is not realy working fine and the other 3 speakers are producing all the sound. But its weird becase when I put my ear next to the speaker its working??? I have gigged the cab had it on crank and the tone is great. Does a torn cone mean a dead speaker or is this possible?? Thanks and sorry if a speaker question should't be in the marshall section.

A speaker can still function with a torn cone, but you'll usually get a buzzy or flabby bass response that is very noticeable. Just replace it or get it re-coned.
