Hello guys, new to the boards. I've played as a hobby for about 10 yrs now and recently joined a garage band. Currently have a Fender Princeton 112 amp. After several practices I've realized that when playing with distortion, I have very little bottom end and begin to overload the speaker at about 2 volume. Now I'll be the first to tell you that I know squat about amps!
Recently purchased an Ibanez S470, now looking for a very versatile amp. I want the clean warm sounds of old U2, (Streets, Bad) or Eric Johnson, but also capable of getting loud with Green Day, and 80"s metal stuff and the like. Not real worried about onboard effects as I have an array of Boss Pedals.
Please explain any pro's cons to sound quality, etc when comparing a single speaker cabinet to a double speaker cabinet. (EJ stereo effect?)
Looking at the AVT100, but a bit pricey! $650.00ish What are your reviews of this amp?
Why the price for this when you can get a half stack for the same or even a little less?
Thanks in advance, Kevin |

Every single person will have their own opinion, so here's mine. Go to a music store and play through some tube amps. Depending on your price range, and where you will play this, will dictate what you will want. You can spend ~$150 on a small Epiphone amp, that you can gig with, it will get LOUD , but not loud and clean. You can spend $1000 and get a Mesa Boogie that will do it all.
Tell us a little more about what you play and where. But I think if you want a good sound, at some point you're going to have to buy a tube amp. |
