Hi.
I am in possession of a very old but lovely VOX Conqueror amp and there are some problems which I would like to overcome with your help.
There is a strange hissing noise that occurs every once a while without there being an obvious reason for it. It sounds like it is raining in there, and then it stops.
I thought maybe this is the transistors or some other parts reaching their end-of-lifespan - does anyone have any experience with replacing these with "modern" equivalents? A friend of mine has just done this with his Marlboro-amp and is very happy, but then some electronic-nostalgia-shop-owner has told me it is virtually impossible to find the right replacements. I would rather accept the monsun-effect than lose the great sound of this amp!
More dramatically, I don't know how to activate distortion. The footswitch is lost and I think it can't be switched directly at the panel. So I bought a standard footswitch because there was an adapter for the footswitch-plug with the amp, but it doesn't work. However, I'm not sure whether the adapter is working, it just came with the amp...
Does anyone know where to get a replacement for the original footswitch? The plug is round with 6 poles (looks a bit like a midi-plug, but smaller) and as far as I've read it switches the tremolo and MRB-effect as well...
Or maybe someone can tell me how to rewire the plug just to make distortion accessible?
Thanks alot for helping!
greets,
