I'm new to this Forum but I love tube amps, my true weakness! I play some guitar and toy with other instruments but non pedal Steel and Dobro are my main ones.
I like Top 40, Music that was Tops in the 40's. Wink Western Swing, Big Band Swing, Jazz Cowboy music. Tex Williams, Bob Wills, Basie, Kenton, Duke, Goodman, Sinatra. I'm not much into Country Music, some of it's ok but it's not my first love. I'd rather play like Bud Powell then Bud Issacs if I had my druthers.
I don't gig alot. Actually I just started getting out. I'd rather stay home, pour a drink, flip on a Sinatra record and try to stay out of Frank's way! I've been lucky to have met several musicians from that era and I'll never forget them.
My rig is pretty simple, Steel to Volume/Tone pedal, to Fender Reverb Unit, to amp. For about the last 15 years vintage gear has been my hobby and the list of what I used to have is WAAAY better than what I still have!
Here's what's kickin' around the Rancho these days.

1937 Epiphone Model M Amp and 6 string Model M Lap steel. Both are original and complete. The steels almost mint w/ OHC. Even has the original hang tag from C.G. Conn Music in Hartford, Ct! The amp is 2 - 6L6G's into a 12" Rola field coil speaker.

1937 Epiphone Rocco Model Double neck lap steel 1-7 and 1-8 string neck. Original and complete with the VERY rare Rocco "Tonexpressor" footpedal and Rocco tone bar. This guitar was owned and operated by Russ Spargo, steel guitarist with the Dave McWilliams Big Band. They played at the Spanish Ballroom, in MD outside of Washington DC. Russ played in the DC area for 30 years, anyone ever know of him? Want an Old Timey tone? Plug this in to an amp and you'll have it for sure.

1947 Epiphone Zephyr amp, 2-6L6's into a Rola 12. Cool looking but plain Maple veneer Bandstand stand style cab. Epi's most common amp, before Gibson that is.

1952 Alamo Amp-6a. Highly figured Birch veneer cabinet with the stylized A on front. The "a" denotes tremolo. Tubes are: 5U4G (I use a 5AR4) 2 6L6G's (now Tung Sol 5881's) a 6SL7GT and 2-12AX7's in the preamp. The tremolo uses a 12AX7. All into a Jensen P15N. Totally cool 5 push button Tone section. It's such a cool looking amp that's all it's gotta do! But it does sound good and it will hold it's own in a small hall. The large A across the speaker hurts the volume some.

1954 Magnatone Triplex Model 180. I have to believe this was Magna's top of the line in 54. 4- 12AX and 12AU7's in the pre, 2- 5881's for power, I've got some short glass RCA 6L6's in it now, and 2-5Y3's for rectifier, I use 5V4's. The speakers are Jensens. A P15N and P8Q. 2 channels with 2 inputs each. Seprate Vol control for each channel, common Treble and Bass controls, as well as the Triplex, Bass, Dynamic and Extended Ranges. On/Off, Standby, fuse, pilot, Remote Speaker jack and Built in Line out, labeled "Recorder Out". Who did that in 54?? A great sounding amp regardless of the fact the controls only go to 7!!!

1958 Fender Super, 5F4 model. 2 P10R's. This amp was owned by a little old lady that only used the low gain input for her Accordian! No Joke! It was recovered in black tolex but is so clean I don't know why except to keep up with the tolex Fenders. The chassis is 100% orignal. I know, I know, I should change the filters and coupling caps but it gets used alot and sees an amp tech regularly.

1964 Fender Reverb Unit, Smooth White Tolex. I like having a Reverb unit in front of my amp even though I use very little Reverb, (Dwell and Mix set around 3) it fattens up the tone alot.

1928 Dobro Model 37, all Mahogany roundneck with nut raiser. One of my pride and joy instruments. I'll never part with it.

1948 Gibson L-7 non cut. I like Swing rhythm and this fills that bill. I traded a 71 D-28 for it then sold it and bought it back! Orig Lifton case.

1998 Stephen's Extended Cutaway Model T. Trans Orange over a flamed Swamp Ash top. Bound top, Actually just masked during painting to look like wood binding. Maple neck with RW board, shaped after a 53 Tele I had at the time. W.T.Van Zant Tele Pu's. One of the last guitars out of the Seattle shop built while I worked there and finished at my home after it
closed.

1952 Bigsby Triple neck 8 string built for Ray Noren, Legendary KC steel player.
1953 Bigsby Triple neck 8 string pedal steel built for Bobby Black
1954 Bigsby Triple neck 10 string formerly owned by Tom Morrell.

1956 Blankenship & Wheeler Triple neck 8 string. Built in Amarillo TX. This and the Alamo Amp make up my "All Texas" rig

Single 8 non pedal steel with legs. Built by me and finished by Junior Blankenship in 04. Some NOS Bigsby parts and a PU built by Legendary Steel PU winder Dan Shields.

Homemade Double Neck 9 string pedal steel. I bought this guitar for a great price and I'm in the process of turning it into a non pedal to suit my taste. It's fun to play now but needs a bit of TLC.

Also several 50's and 60's JBL and Jensen speakers, 10's 12's and 15's in extension cabs.

I can't post pics here until I've got 10 posts but if anyone wants to see something particular I'll post it after I get 10.

I have 2 full Pa's mostly all EV speakers and Mics. Eliminators and sxa250's also a pair of b52 act18 active subs that kick some serious butt. I have heard people say stuff about b52 but these are some tough speakers, they have played 5-6 nights aweek for 5 years and I haven't had a single problem. Makie mixers and Crown amps BBE and lots of other goodies. My guitars are

1 Ibanez RG570 this is the main axe it is one of the sweetest guitars #evil
2 Jackson DK2 Dinky Erie Dess swirl
3 Washburn acoustic electric with cutaway neck is a little warped but plays
3 Honer thin solid body classical electric ?model
4 Kramer Ks500 basically a Strat copy with a hockey stick thin neck
5Takamine G340 acoustic

Amps
1 Crate Gfx120 1x12
2 Crate gx15 practice amp
3 I want a Line 6 Flextone III 212 or a line 6 HD147 but need some advice first.

Pedals

1 Morley wah wah
2 Zoom 505
3 DOD overdrive
4 Ibanez DMD Delay with digital modulation

updated list (Hey firedude, by the way, you still like'in that Palomino V16?

My usual setup is-
guitar:
les paul (studio w/ burstbuckers)
pedal board:
planet waves tuner
boss compressor
boss ds-1
visual sounds h2o (delay & chorus)
bommerang looper (in the effect loop)
amp:
fender hotrod deluxe (first year model I think)

and I have some other nick-nacks sitting around, but don't use them too
often - the list above works out great for me. I still got my tacoma
acoustic, 2 different envelop filters, 2 alesis nano-things (delay/reverb &
a compressor), I got my strat copy to my daughter, so thats out of the
picture, 2 project amps I need to finish up STILL, 2x12 speaker cabinet,
and.... I think thats it.

Been a bad month my man - but enough of that.

The amp project is just sitting there on top my 2x12... hasn't moved in
about 2(?) months. I just can't gather up the time or energy to work on it. Rolling Eyes
Its not forgotten, I just hit the pause button Wink
