I'm having quite huge problems with my DSL401.
A few weeks ago, the output level started dropping. It eventually reached the point where I could have everything cranked up to 10 and it would only sound a little bit louder than a "bedroom practice" kind of level.
I originally assumed it was the power valves, as I hadn't changed them since I bought the amp about a year ago. I bought some Ei EL84's a couple of days ago and replaced them, but this didn't help.
Today, I turned on my amp, the power light came on, I waited for it to warm up, flicked standby to "ON" and struck a chord - but there was no sound. I checked the connections and all the levels, but there was still nothing. Then I looked in the back of the amp and the valves weren't even on!
The only thing I could hear was a very quiet, very low buzzing, which I could only hear if I press my ear right up against the speaker.
I changed back to the old power valves, but still no sound. I looked at the HT and mains fuses, and they're both fine.
Any ideas what could be wrong? I'm hoping it's just something simple and inexpensive, like a pre-amp valve, but I've got a scary feeling that could just be wishful thinking. _________________ i don't know why i feel so tongue tied

It couldn't hurt to change them, but you're probably right. You may get some ideas here:

...or here:

Good luck. |

| I know this is a late reply but, perhaps someone else is having the same problem. Try going to WWW.piller.at/music/dsl201/index.html. You could have bad solder joints at your bridge rectifier due to overheating. Hope this helps somebody. |
