|
|
I have not been able to find help for a problem i have finding a good distortion sound. right now i use a 2x12 Fender hotrod deville, these amps are known for the amazing clean sounds, but do not provide a very good distortion sound. Too solve this problem i have been using a Morley A/B/Y pedal to connect my deville with a Peavey Bandit 1x12 for my distortion. My Problem is that that is just too much equipment to be carrying around every gig, and it is too noisey. So to solve this problem i am looking for a good pedal or anything, that will give me a good, full distortion. The sound i am after is like a full Marshall distortion with a lot of good sustain, but with a full low end sound like from a mesa-boogie. I am open for any suggestions on what is good to achieve this sound.
Thank you |

That's asking a lot out of a stomp box. Distortion alone can't emulate the tonal qualities of a full setup that includes cabs, amps, EQ, and so on. It's taken me 25 years to find my sound, and that meant going through a ton of amps and effects. From my experience, I'd have to say the DOD/Digitech Grunge is the best distortion I've come across, but I'm also using it along with two EQs, reverb, and slight chorus (I use a Digitech 2101 preamp & a Peavey 260 power amp into Marshall 1960A & B cabs).
I'd suggest getting the same preamp I use. You can get virtually any distortion sound you'd want, along with high-quality reverbs and other effects. They're relatively cheap on eBay. |

Either try tube screamers, modeling or overdrive pedals or get a new amp, it doesn't sound like your happy with yours. If you try pedals lug your amp around with ya to try 'em, only you know 'the tone' your after. The amp makes the biggest difference. If your after more bottom end the Mesa Recto 212. Recto cabs are larger and heavier for more bass response. I like the Bogner 212 combo too (my next amp GAS). I have a Zinky BV 112 that I run into a Mesa Recto 212 cab in a 312 combo. Sometimes I also run a GNX3 in stereo to the PA, two completely different tones at once. I just set the GNX for a little delay. _________________ The voices in my head don't bother me, it's the sudden guitar tone in my head that haunts me, I gotta find it, make it mine.I'm DRIVEN to go on the next friggin' 'Holy Tone' Quest. That's what drives me crazy. There it goes again! |

As you already stated, you have a fener which has superb clean sound. This is good because it should accept pedals nicely. If you enjoy the marshall distortion sound, then you can get one of the marshall distortion pedals. I personally believe this pedal is something that you would enjoy

The marshall Guvnor pedal. I have heard good thigns about it, and you metnioned you wanted added bass. The Guvnor pedal has a boosted bass frequency switch. From the looks of it all I feel this is a good pedal to at least check out and test it. Good Luck |

| I've actually changed my thoughts from my previous post as my own sound has changed. You can get great distortions from the 2101 preamp, but I've found better ways to get great distortion. Personally, I think that nothing beats pairing a 4-input Marshall (either Lead or Super Lead) with a treble booster pedal. I use a ThroBak Strangemaster and can get every type of distortion tone imaginable (and I play metal). It kicks up that natural Marshall grind without covering it over with something artificial. |
