The Trainwreck Express has got to be the absolute best, rock guitar amp ever built. I would some of you to listen to clips 4 & 9 at the Komet website. kometamps.com

Although the Komet was designed by Ken Fischer, there is a very distinct difference between the 2 amps.

IMHO, the Trainwreck sounds more open, with greater note definition. The Komet, while sounding good, seems a bit too compressed, compared with the Trainwreck. Also, I hear a noticable mushiness when it comes to note definition in the Komet.

Take a listen and tell me what you guys and girls think.

grendel, The sound card on my lap-top is not the best, but dang if I didn't like the sound of the Komet the best. I don't think I'd trust a demo where they are selling one, and comparing it to an amp that's out of production. Fiddle with the mix a bit? I've always heard the Trainwreck is right there with the '59 Bassman as the "Holy Grail" of amps. (Not that I'll ever be able to afford either one. Smile )

The Komet is a great sounding amp, but the Express just floored me. If you have a chance to hear the clip through a better sound card, I think you'll agree. Although some people prefer the compressed sound that many amps have, so I may be wrong.

The asking price for Trainwrecks are $12,000 to $18,000. Seems a bit outrageous for an amp that originally sold for $1500.

I've decided to have Trace Allen of Voodoo Amps make me a clone "Wreck". I'll keep you posted on how it comes out.
