Hello people.

Just joined here... looks like a friendly place. Member also of the LTG forum; likely I guess, that other LTG members are active here.

I'm a "senior" person, 58, who's only in the last five years taken up guitar. Consequent to that, I've acquired a taste for inexpensive, and oddball amps. and guitars. Haven't acquired many amps
yet, and given that N.Z. is a long way from the American market, and the attendant problems that that brings, I probably wont either !
However, I do enjoy "window shopping" immensely.

I have a (modded) Silvertone 1482; a Guild Thunder RVT 1; and a THD Univalve and homemade cabinet with Celestion Greenback. And I seem to be acquiring guitars at an alarming rate !

Welcome kiwi99!

Nothing wrong with that sir, I have a fondness for those odd balls and..
well, I like to call them hidden gems. (well - some of them are oddballs and
theres reason, but some amp designs are great, but never caught on for
one reason or another, or are out or production or....).

homemade cabinet

I would love to see pics sometime soon... I'm a superfan of homemade
speaker cabs (for some strange reason).

Thanks for the welcome TW.

Unfortunately, I cannot post pictures until I've made 10 posts..... I've just tried.

I will post a picture as soon as I am able.

In the meantime, I've bought another 1482 overnight for this project.......

Well, here I placed a reference to my post in DIY...... another temporary no-no !

So; if you head to "Amp Kits and DIY" you'll see what I'm up to.

Gary.

Welcome to the Forum, Gary!

Shucks, if you've got a THD Univalve, you've got lots of room to improvise!

Stay tuned,
Stan

Thanks for the welcome Steve.

Pretty steep learning-curve with the Univalve....... not really an amp. for somebody (like me), with extremely limited ability. A fun experience though !

Then there's the valves ( okay, okay...tubes) that I've managed to collect, and the valve tester I "had to" acquire !!

Until recently, there were bargains to be had on NOS valves on our Ebay equivalent. Unfortunately, a lot of people have become hip to this, with the consequence that there (largely) ain't any more bargains to be had.

And all I ever really wanted to do was get an acoustic, learn guitar, set up a guitar to play the country blues and slide that my heroes did, and relax on the verandah (porch) with a few Heinekens !!

Well, with a lot of Heinekens, actually !!

Well yes....... except that along the way, I got waylaid !!

Or was it laid-on-the-way....... it's all a Heineken blur !!

Anyway; 3 acoustics and a reso, and 7 electrics and 4 amps. later, I'm not much better at plunking on the porch than when I started !!

Oh well, acquisition can be good for the soul. Unless of course, it's gets just a bit excessive like our good friend AjayTele, may his hallowed name ring through the halls. Cool

Well; I'm "made", so here goes...........

My homemade cabinet. Marine ply, Purple Elephant tolex, Marshall grillecloth and Celestion Greenback.

Recovered Guild Thunder 1RVT

This is how it looked when it arrived in NZ.

And my Silvertone 1482. Overhauled, decent baffle, Fender grillecloth and Celestion Blue. I have the original knobs.

Kiwi, you do some great work! All three of those are beautiful!

Man, those were some serious injuries that you had to repair. Rolling Eyes

Thanks SAguitar...... looking forward to receiving the 1482 that I recently purchased for project-ing.

Yes, I did have a fair bit of remedial work to do to the Guild ! That first-generation chipboard is just awful stuff.... like compressed cornflakes !

Here's a reissue Danelectro U2 I worked over a bit ! ......

And another that one of these days, I'll get finished !
