I did some checking Rick, and here's what I found: Looks like the reverb footswitch needs to be plugged in for the reverb to work. What you can do is find a plug of the right type and plug it in the footswitch jack. Now short it with an alligator clip. This should turn the reverb on. Find someone with a tube tester to check all the tubes.
A friend of mine found an old Silvertone with reverb and a 1x15 speaker in a lean-to where it had been abandoned for years. The wind had blown it full of sand, and many critters had used it as a home. I think the owner gave it to him. He took it home and started cleaning. After blowing out the chassis, and polishing and armour-all on the Tolex, it looked fine again. I tested the tubes, re-tensioned the sockets, cleaned and lubed the pots and tightened all the hardware. It sounds great, and is probably good for another 100 years or so.

Also there is something very unique with your new amp. It has dual output transformers. One set of power tubes feeds one O T. Each one runs three 10" 8 ohm Jensen speakers wired in parallel. This should be a really fine sounding amp and well worth the trouble to get the reverb working. When I was in high school, a friend of mine bought one just like it.(40+ years ago; I'm an old f***) I still remember how good it sounded.
That was a lucky find Rick. I'd go buy a lottery ticket too. |
