| i've been playing for a while, but i'm still intimidated by my amp. Those tremble, middle, bass and presence knobs....i play with the gain around 5,but i just can't seem to work out a good chemistry with the rest. I'm looking for an underground Keith Ritchards sound. I could go on using the tone i got now,but i'd be grateful if someone told me how to set it up properly. |

jenny, wiggle one of the big power tubes out. What is the # on it? I think they were sold in the U.S. mostly with 6550's. In the U.K. and Europe they had EL-34's. I never could get a good sound out of mine till I switched to EL-34's. ( The socket has to be re-wired so don't just stick em in there) Ka-Boom |

Hi Jen -
Early 70's KR tone to me is best represented by a low power tweed fender circuit and a telecatser tuned to open G with no fat E string. Something like a 5F1 champ maxed out and mked up close.
Kinda hard to do with a JCM800 and a Les Paul ....

| Jenny, if your guitar is a Gibson Les Paul Standard, maybe you should keep it and look around for a Telly to add to your collection. I've made some trades in the past I regret, and wish I still had the guitars. |

I own 5 guit and one is a telecaster custom, but...Fender, sorry for fender lovers, makes one good guitar over an hundred...if you want "single coil" type sound but you want to be sure that your guitar will play anyway, keep your gibson LP and substitute your humbuckers with two "P-90" soapbars.
sorry...I don't like fender.. |

| With normal size hands, I've always prefered a shorter scaled instrument. I find the longer scale guitars a little less comfortable to play. My favorite noodling guitar is a highly customized Fender 3/4 Musicmaster. |

| I use a Surfcaster (Charvel) customized completely, with Humbuckers in place of the lipstick...I have never played a short scale guitar. |

| gg, my point was that that since Gibson uses a slightly shorter scale than Fender, Jenny might find the Tele a little harder to play. What is the scale length on your Charvel? |

| i found a nice ibanez (pre lawsuit), performer series (les paul), '79 model with super 70 pickups. it sounds good, i must admit. worth considering. 24.75" scale, 22 frets. |
