Hi, i recently got a Fender Twin Reverb (c.1976 SF) and want to plug my marshall cab (1960A) into it as well. I swapped all 4 speakers in the cab for 8 ohm ones (and i'm almost certain that i managed to wire them in the same way the previous 16 ohm ones were wired.)
The problem i have is that i'm not sure whether it will be safe to plug the cab into the twin. As you might well know, the back of the twin has two speaker outputs, one for its own 2 speakers and one other. By these two outputs it says something like "maximum load 4 ohms". i'm not quite sure how to work out how much impedence is going on with this combination.
Assuming i copied the wiring exactly as it was, would it be safe to plug the 4x12 (8 ohm speakers) into the other speaker jack?
If so, would it still be safe if i had done the wiring the other way (series or parallel)?
Thanks.

hello again, i notice that my question hasn't really generated much feedback. None to be precise. Surely someone must know whether or not it would be safe?! The speakers in the twin are 8 ohm ones so i think that combined with the cab's 8 ohm ones it would make 4 ohms (right?)
Furthermore, the twin's speakers are JBL D120F's with orange cradles. I hear that these are pretty desireable and they look to be in fine condition but last night whilst playing at fairly loud volume, i noticed that the bass response can get quite farty and sounds pretty *Poop*. it's only only particularly loud and bassy notes but still its nothing that the speakers in the marshall can't handle easily (they are Celestion G12H's).
Is this problem common or is there something wrong with the speakers?
Thanks in advance for any responses.

I'd say the problem with the "farty" sound is the amp and not the speakers. Bad tube, bias not set right, bad capacitor, or faulty transformer are all possibilities. If you plug your other cabinet into the extension speaker jack, first be sure it is a 4 ohm load, and second you will find that when that cabinet is connected, the Twin's speakers get disconnected. And if you decide you don't want those D120F's; I'll be glad to take them off your hands regardless of their condition..... _________________ Yer guitar pickin' friend,
