Greetings to all Very Happy ...A new memeber needs help. Confused
I have a Polytone Amp, that was working like a charm, until yesterday night when I flpped the switch on. It did produce a horrible noise. The one that makes you turn it off immediatelly. LOUD. Nothing was plugged in. All controls were rolled off. I tried a different power outlet, but the only effect was my wife snapping at me Razz . Would something like this translate a visit to a repair center, or would there be something I could do first with my very limited electronics skills( I've tinkered with gutiars and amps, mostly mechanically and soldering guitar circuits, but that's as far as I can go)?. Thanks in advance.
Greg B.

I'm not familiar with Polytone, but on a quick glance, they all look like
solid state amps from the 70's... that sounds like yours???
If so, and you get a loud noise turning it on, sorry to say, but it sounds like
a trip to the doctor for that amp is the best thing.

This one is from late 80s, early 90s I believe. Beautiful specimen with two "V" angled 12" speakers that could be turned either both on or one of them separately wit its own contols. I opened it up tonight ,and looked around the board / jacks/pots just to confirm that I am an absolute stranger to all this little things' world. However, I tested the headphones output and got the same creepy noise. I did like the look of two huge blue cylinders( capacitors I would guess) next to the transformer Shocked . Will google it up tomorrow in search for the local Clev area guru. Thanks for the reply btw.
Cheers,
Greg
