hey all. Is it beneficial running a patch cord between send and return on my effects loop? I am told this helps tonally.

I sat here and gave your post a fair amount of thought.
My vote for now is:
A very minimal benefit under the most optimal circumstances to
no difference at all, to even possible degrading the tone a wee little bit.
