The Fender Cyber twin looks interesting with all its flexibility including its pedal board, mixing and downloading capabilities etc. I havent had a chance to play one yet, Anyone have any feedback on this amp good or bad?

I've had a CyberTwin for about a year now, and I love it. Watch out for the tube snobs though, they like to bash anything that smacks of solid state.
There's a lot of great discussion of Cyber amps both pro and con at the FDP as Willy said, but you really don't have to worry about Chris Greene. |

Why do you think the tube v's tranny battle is still going on? I look on some old tranny amps as cool sounding in their own way. Though, I must say as soon as chips started appearing I'm out the door. And as for those kidney things purlease!!! I just do not like to be relying on 'ones' and 'zeros' to generate my tone. Some solid state amps have gotten a bad name because the 'solid state' part was the tip of the cost cutting iceberg and there were probably more upsetting compromises like bad workmanship which accompanied the ss. I think some people can get great tone out of anything. Do I have to say "BB King", "Duke Robilard"? It's not just the sound either, it's the way the amp 'behaves', those pods might sound close to the originals but there's no way on this green planet that they will ever behave the same as the real stuff. The real stuff is big in the mix, it's robust and strong... that digital stuff just goes under when the heat is on.

I couldn't agree more. Digital modeling is exactly what it is, modeling. Meaning not the real thing. It can come close, but it will never be as nice as the original. You can model circuitry all you want, but when it comes down to it, the amp is the interaction between the chasis, speakers, and cabinet, and you can't change all of those with a chip. _________________ symphones of sickness, melodies of universal malice |

Well not to be argumentative, but when I decided on the CyberTwin I was in the market for a new amp and had intended to get a Fender tube amp. (It had to be Fender because I was trading some other equipment with a Fender dealer). I was trying to decide between a DRRI or a Hot Rod Deville, when I spotted a CT and decided to try it out. I thought that the various sounds that I got out of it in about 30 minutes was astounding, and I've never regretted my decision. I know that most tube afficionados come up with the old argument that it doesn't/can't sound like the original, and it's probably true since I've never heard all the amps that the CT emulates, but I can get a *Poop* of different sounds (clean to overdriven), that work for me. I don't really care that the '59 Bassman preset doesn't sound EXACTLY like your '59 Bassman (and I doubt if all '59 Bassman amps sound identical), as long as I like what that "selection" can do. Unfortunately, most of the built-in special effects are pretty crappy, and that's what most people seem to check out first at music stores. But there are a multitude of gems that can be had from the amp.
If anyone is really interested in what the CT can do, check out the CT Posse thread at the Fender Forum. There's a lot of good input - both positive and negative - for a balanced opinion. |

Dangerine... I hate to sound patronizing and I mean this with respect and an element of humor too, but I did not notice the difference either. It took me a while before I could understand what was going on with the sound. My biggest mistake was that for the first twenty years of my music career I was listening to my amp when in fact I should have been listening to the room. I eventually made the time available (simply had to) to A-B the tranny/tube amps in a band environment at full wick, and I've proved it to myself 100 times since. I think you made the right purchase, if it works for you that's cool. And who knows, perhaps you'll never be in a position where it matters that much? In over thirty years of playing I have bought and sold more amps than the local corner music store. There is no doubt in my mind. And it's not because of a "resisting technology thing" either... I work with computers every day and I'm not scared of technology, that's probably why I won't rely on it for more life threatening things like TONE... this is a simple open and shut case for me. Come over to the dark side, you owe it to yourself. Ha ha ha! But most of all enjoy you gear what ever it is.

Thanks for your gentle response, Silva. I have been amazed at some of the rabid anti-solid state posts on some other boards. I mean, some tube guys actually go out of their way to denegrate anything that might have a transistor in it !!
As soon as I'm signed to go on tour, I'll run right out and get a Bogner, or a Rivera, or a Dr. Z or something cool like that. I just saw Steely Dan live last week, and Walter Becker was playing a Sadowsky Strat through a Bogner amp setup that sounded quite nice. Hopefully, my CT won't be my last amp purchase. Although it was 30 years since my last amp purchase. When I do get another one, I promise I'll come over to the dark side and get a tube amp. |
