That's a start. It could be either. A head would obviously be a little cheaper.
What kind output tubes/configuration? Tone controls? Reverb or tremolo? If a combo, what type and style of speaker?
I'm surprised I had to coax replies from you guys. Let your imagination go. Think fantasy amp.
I guess a boutique amp could be defined as custom design and hand built/point to point. |

OK... Here would be my amp:
single channel
6V6 based
reverb & trem just like a Fender Princeton reverb
ok.... I think I described a Princeton reverb up till now.. So I'm going to
change my answer to:
A Princeton reverb with a tube buffered effects loops, built in a head cab
so I can use my 2x12 cabinet. And when I get all caught up with all my
unfinished projects, I'm hoping someone will remind me to build this! |

That would be tough to do for under $1K as far as an actual distributed model.
How many of you out there are FX loop users? |

Sorry buddy - I'm not following you. - 'distributed model' ??? I guess it
doesn't matter though. I'll build it eventually (I'm painfully slow when it
comes to stuff like that - but then again, I'm just a hobbiest - slow is OK)
My neighbor has an old Princton reverb, and its a hoot to play through.
But yes, I am an avid effects loop user, so its pretty much a requirement in
an amp I am going to use/keep. |

Isn't that what these posts are for? C'mon, upset away!
I'm thinking about a 12-14 watt single ended/class A, with a single 6550 output tube. Octal preamp (6SL7?!). In a head to keep the cost down. Probably just a volume control. No BS, just plug in and turn up. |

An 6SL7 for the preamp...mmm.. I would have never thought about that as
an option (especially since I've never heard about it ) So.. why a 6SL7?
I went looking - its a dual triode like our little 12a~7's - what's the
advantage of it in the preamp?
I think owwdatune doesn't want to share 'cause his pick is ss!! 
Not that there's anything wrong with ss amps

It's used in many vintage Ampeg and Gibson amps. It's kind of an unsung hero, all the gain of a 12AX7 but none (or a lot less) of the noise and crap that comes with 12AX7's. They can be run a lot hotter and you don't even need a noise gate.

Russ, expect a few follow up questions regarding those 6SL7's sometime
in the future, eh Curse you... you got me thinking.
I've never played through a Orange Tiny Terror - but they seem to be
rather popular now-a-days. |
