That's what I do.
As fate may have it, I just had a Tiny Terror in the shop today. Pretty cool. Real crunchy, but a little compressy, cleans up well. All in all a decent little package. |

Not that there's anything wrong with ss amps
come on buddy, your a mod - you have to read every post and I
know you're reading this |
HaHaHa .....i do like the Crate PowerBlock quite a bit .......but OKAY.. ..lets see what i can dream up here for a good inexpensive boutique-type amp head......for the wattage you're talking about, i believe i'd hafta go with >>>
The amp would be based on the Fender classic 60's 5E1 Champ -or- Princeton circuit.
point-to-point hand wired with a star ground system and chassis insulated jacks for lowest noise and hum.
a sturdy anodized 12" x 8" x 2" non magnetic aluminum chassis...no enclosure cab.
5Y3 rectifier... can substitute a 5U4, 5AR4, or even a solid state plug-in rectifier to control the sag and compression.
dual 12AX7 preamps ... can substitute a 12AT7 or 12AU7.
Class A cathode bias single-ended EL34 in the output... substitute 6V6, 6K6, 6L6, KT66, KT77, KT88 etc. to get different tones and slightly different power ratings.
4 - 8 - 16 ohm outputs- back panel .
a gain control giving you a range from a smooth bluesy cleanish sound to the nice mid-crunch vintage rock sound.
a Presence control-front panel- in the feedback circuit giving you high frequency control with a pull switch to defeat the feedback and give you a less compressed open sound.
no tone control---or maybe a single tone control--i like to shape tone using an MXR 10 band EQ box.
a Standby Switch to turn off the plate voltage during warm-up.
oh....and a fender style green power light
hows that ?? _________________ ~T~...Live a little >crank it up< ...

This week I was intived to a demonstation of a new low wattage amp from BlackStar.
The amp in question is a 5W, full featured amp which comes in Combo (1x10) head and mini-stack configurations.
This thing is unashamadly aimed at the Tiny Terror and it has several features that I think make it worthwhile conisdering, not the least fo which is full tonal control.
Another great feature is an emulated line out, meaning that the amp can provide true tone through a PA with a direct connection.
Astonishingly loud when connected to a 4 x 12 cab, a real surprise packet.
Not only that, but they had the amp on pre-sale on the night at a special price.
Needless to say I ordered one... |

| I got my Siegmund Midnight Special for $950 shipped (used, of course). I wouldn't trade/sell it for very many other amps. |
