one day while i was playing... my amp head(marshall jcm 2000) decided to stop playing. i checked the tubes and what-not. they seemed fine. so i checked the fuses, and i had burnt one out. my friend who has quite a bit of experience with guitars, said that it is possible that it burnt out because of the stereo/mono/4ohm/16ohm/whatever settings(i know nothing about amps... i just play it.) so i went to the old radio shack, picked up some 1 amp, 250 watt, short-blow(?) and when i immediately turn on my amp, the fuse burns out. i can't play one note before it dies on me. i know this is kind of a stupid question, because for anyone to really know the problem, they'd have to look at it. but i was hoping someone might have an idea. like, maybe it's the wrong type of fuse? and the radio shack guy has no idea what he's talking about. but then again, neither do i. any help would be greatly appreciated. i haven't been able to play for about 2 weeks, and i'm dying to.

xcthc, make sure a 1 amp fuse is correct. The right value should be written on the end of the fuse holder or near-by. You need to use a slow-blow type fuse. This allows for an occasional transient peak without blowing. Pull all the tubes. Install a fuse of the correct value. When you turn on the amp, if the fuse don't blow, then you have a shorted tube. Find someone with a tube tester to find the bad one. If the fuse blows, then it's time to take it to a repair shop. The insides of this type Marshall are very complex. It's sort of like having all the power options on a car. They are wonderful until they start failing. Hopefully it's just a wrong value fuse or a shorted tube. Both are easy to fix. Good Luck

xcthc, the above post is mine. I just downloaded a program that is supposed to stop the new virus or whatever it is that is attacking Micro Soft operating programs. It must have wiped out all my cookies.
