Ok i just bought a Marshall TSL-602, and im thinking about changing out the wolverine speakers for the famous one Vintage 30 and one G12H combination, but im a little confused about the difference between the G12H Heritage (greenback) and the G12H 70th Anniversary addition (without the green backing). uuhhh is there a difference? and if so... what are the quality, tonal etc. differences?? im wondering if i should pay for a $220 speaker or a $130 speaker, cuz thats about the price difference.

howdy & welcome.......my answer will probably confuse you even more Confused ...my cabs are loaded with drivers from Celestion-Eminence & Weber....and i like them all for different reasons.....i do have a 2x12 vertical LopoLine cab that is my favorite & it is loaded with Hellatones from Avatar cabs which is a broken-in 30 watt G12H30 70th Year Anniversary....The 30 watt G12H30 70th Year Anniversary special is a favorite because it has a big rich warm low end, smooth mids with just a hint of grit when slightly overdriven and nice top end for what to me is the classic rock sound....i recently sold my 2x12 regular horizontal cab (took up too much space) & it had greenbacks in it--side by side the tone was identical to my ears... perhaps at 25 watts it may have given a slightly earlier breakup.....i also have a couple 1x12 cabs loaded with an Eminence red fang that i love and a Weber blue dog that is also a favorite---all have slightly different tones but all give me the sounds i love for classic rock & blues yet still give me the pristine cleans i require for jazz & love song type stuff.....keep in mind i am playing with amps of 18 watts & less....mostly less nowadays Cool
i might suggest the Eminence wizard speaker for your size amp--nice sounds IMO----goodluck in your tone quest & let us know about your progress/decision Cool

thanks a bunch man, lots of helpful stuff in there. i actually decided to go with those hellatones after some research on them. I went with a Hellatone 60 and a Hellatone 30, for the G12H + V30 combo sound in my amp that iv been hearing so much about. Im still waiting to get these in the mail, but as soon as i get them in ill let you know how the combo sounds.

"tone quest" is right tho man, haha. im just aching for the perfect sound that makes my skin crawl. Im playing an american deluxe strat with the noisless pickups through the TSL right now, and im thinkin of investing in some custom '69 pickups to get a more classic blues rock kinda sound. anyone ever had any experience with these?

ok iv had these speakers in my amp for about 2 weeks now, and right now they sound awesome!! one Hellatone 60 (Vintage 30) for the mids to highs, and one Hellatone 30 (G12H30) for the low end and more mids.

im not sure how much they actually break these speakers in at Avatar, because when i got them they sounded shrill and icepick-y, but i just cranked all 60 watts to 10 the next couple of days for a few hours and after that they sound great. this amp with these speakers has a nice low end CRUNCH that reminds me of the days of sabbath, zeppelin and acdc, i almost want to say a nice "crackle" in the distortion that just screams rock and roll. since they are two different speakers emitting different sounds, standing about 15 feet or more away from the amp gives some distance for the two sounds to blend very nicely. the highs are noticeably much clearer than the wolverines that came with the amp, and the mids are awesome. i would definitely recommend this combination (either new Vintage 30 and G12H30 or the Hellatones) of speakers to anyone with a 2 X 12 tube combo amp, very nice sound.
