Hi there, i have a Marshall EL34 power amp in my rack and i want to replace the tubes in it at the moment (Sovtek EL34's) with some new JJ EL34's.

Do i have to rebias the amp if the new valves are EL34's as well ???

If so, how do you bias one of these amps ??

Any info you guys have would be gratefully received.

Regards

Richy T

Yes, always, always have the bias checked by a compitent tube amp tech unless you can do it yourself. No I can't tell you how to bias, all amps are different and you will need the spec on your particular amp. JJ Tubes and Lee Jackson have Biasing videos and the tools you will need to do it. It's not hard but it can be DANGEROUS. Even if the amp is off and unplugged it can kill you. If you are serious about maintaining your own amp, definately learn how. It can save you money and time and you will learn how to run your amp at aoptimal efficiency.
