I got a Jensen CN12 today and after putting it in I noticed a buzz coming from the amp when the volume is half way or more. It will buzz when I hammer a not on the low e string or if I tap the chassis. At first I thought it was the speaker but I got the same buzz when I put the lod speaker back in. Any ideas?????

Caper, have you checked that all the jacks are tight and the grounds are good? How does that new Jensen sound?
If your amp wasn't doing this before the speaker change, and is now buzzing with either speaker, I would almost bet there is a poor connection on one of the speaker terminals. Make sure the clips fit good and snug, if that's the way they are connected. Re-melt the solder where the wire connects to the clip. |

Tim, the clips are very snug, I tried moving the wires going to the speaker while strumming the guitar but it didn't affect it. I guess given that it will make the buzz if I tap the chassis straps it probably is just a loose connection or ground. That does make sense. At lower volume it is has a nice warm tone, much improved from what I had. I take it apart and check the wires going to the speaker jack.

Today I replaced the tubes one at a time in case that was the problem but it is still the same.

Got the amp back yesterday there was a loose connection at the reverb socket as well as one of the power tubes sockets. I'm up and running again. It looks like this amp has very little playing time on it so my guess is because it sat for quite a few years unused it will take a little tweaking to get the bugs out. Also the CN12 sounds very good in this amp. It is a good low budget speaker replacement for these series amps.
