|
|
Hi all, I'm very new to tube amps and very ignorant as to how they function so far. I just bought this fender hot rod deluxe on ebay and when I turn it on and play the sound is very very faint and when I change channels it doesn't really do anything. I don't think it's the fuse and I'm not sure if it's a tube. I'm not really sure how to tell when a tubes goes?! Apologies for my complete ignorance but I would much appreciate some advice. Thanks a lot!

Since you arn't familiar with tube amps, and I don't know what you
do know, I'll start at the beginning - I appoligize if I'm telling you things
you already know.
After transporting tube amps, its always a good idea to check the tubes
before you turn it on. In this case, I'd unscrew those 4 screws that are
holding that rectangle board in back which is covering the amp. DON'T
touch any of the electronics - we only removed it to make it easier to
see what we are doing. The tubes should all be there and seated well.
If one is tilted, straighten it out. If one is missing, you can't expect the
amp to work. Make sure the speaker is plugged in and the 2 wires on
the speaker itself are ok. once the physical inspection is ok, put the
board back on.
no foot switch pluged in, turn on the amp -just the power, not the standby.
the 3 small push buttons on the panels should all be 'up'. The volume knob
on the far left turn all the way down. set the bass, mid & treb. at 12 o'clock..
plug in guitar (volume on guitar all the way up). then turn on the standby.
wait about 10 seconds. strum a chord and hold it. slowly turn on the
above mentioned volume knob on the far left slowly - it gets loud fast.
At this point, if you haven't missed anything, you should have sound - its
not all that hard. If you don't have sound - contact the seller, thats
what I would do if I were you. Good luck though! |

There are 2 output jacks on the bottom of the chassis. A correct, and an incorrect. They're not labeled. The speaker should be plugged into the one closest to the power cable - not the one next to the power tube.

This site also has a wealth of info on that specific model. Hopefully, your volume issue is this simple to resolve. |
