|
|
Does anyone know if it is possible to split a bass combo amp into a head and a speaker (electronics wise) so the head can power other cab's at gigs (and I don't have to lug the whole thing around!)
Is it just wiring the correct jack things(??) onto whatever wires connect the amp to the speaker and the speaker to the amp? |

bassandbeast - I'm not sure I follow your question there at the end, but
in a nut shell, to your question 'Is it just wiring the correct jack things(??) ',
Yes, that is correct.
For safety, you would, by what ever means, create/add a solid, well mounted
1/4" speaker out jack - if there is not one already on the back of the amp.

hey, thanks for suggestion, there is only a fx send/ return out of it at the moment, im guessing that wouldn't do?
So would that just require cutting the wires that currently connect the amp to the speaker and soldering them to the jack, would that be mono? And would that be the same thing for the speaker's input so it would be linked in future by a guitar lead?
Is there an issue of ohm's and impedence and all that stuff?
sorry for multiple questions its been a few years since I failed a level electronics! |

"fx send/ return.... that wouldn't do?" Nope.
"cutting the wires.....and soldering them to the jack" Yes. OR depending
on how your amp is made, you might be able to loosen the wires from
the speaker connects.
"would that be mono? " correct.
"the same thing for the speaker's input" correct.
"an issue of ohm's and impedence and all that stuff?" Not at all, until you
start changing or adding speakers, not when using the original speaker.
"sorry for multiple questions its been a few years since I failed a level electronics!"
No problem... take a look at it, its not that hard.
2 wires from the amp to a jack.
2 wires from the speaker to a jack
and a 1/4 speaker (not an instrument) cable that connects the two.
Have fun! |
