Hi!

This is my first post at this forum. I hope you guys can help. Smile

I just got a used Fender Hot Rod Deville, but now I'm seriously considering getting a used Vox AC30 from 1985 instead. The owner claims that it sounds better than the newer ones made in China, and it also costs more used than the new wharfdale version. He told me this is because of how the old version was built, ie. "point-to-point" without PCB boards - which gives better sound.
I don't have a clue, so I'm asking you guys.. Smile
Also: Is there a considerable difference in sound quality between the Wharfdale and Blue versions now made in China? Is it just the speakers and nothing more?
Can I upgrade the old/used AC30 easily to have the Blue speakers?

I would really appreciate any tips or advice you might have, since I could basically get a new China-made AC30 with blue speakers for not a lot more cash. Or I could get the "superior" older version and upgrade later to the blue speakers..
Thanks for reading!

Best regards,
Steinar

I make hand wired tube amps and the advantage our amp has over real vintage amps with very old components is that our amps are made with new components. The thing about discreet components is that they age and fail. If you are cranking an amp up you are stressing the components. Thats what heat does.

As far as your situation goes, if you do not know how to repair an amp, you will have to pay someone to do it. An investment in a vintage amp or a hand wired boutique amp represents a lot more than the purchase price.

As far as speakers go, you can replace a speaker with any speaker you choose as long as the impedance is the same and the power handling is adequate.
