I suggest trying a lot of different amps. Try stuff you never heard of. You may end up buying an amp you never even considered.
For a real test, find someone else who plays the amp you want and borrow it for a practice or two. See if cuts through.
Don't get too caught up in what other people say. Remember, "writing about music is like dancing about architecture". |

Very true............but depending on how much volume abuse you plan on giving the amp, if it's a tube amp, this should effect your choices. I am a tone *One Who Practices the World's Oldest Profession* by nature and I also don't abuse my equipment. Will it be used for Gigging? Band practice?, Personal practice? All of the above? Blasting a wide open combo constantly will beat the S**T out of the amp and it's tubes, you will get more frequent tube faliures, microphonic tubes, and unwanted vibration feedback on the tubes (i.e. noise in the signal) Shop smart and DON"T BELIEVE THE HYPE! |

Very true also. With the amp separate, you can set it away from the speaker cabinet and isolate it from all those nasty vibrations. |
