Hi all,

I'm from the UK and fairly new to this forum lark, but I just wondered if anybody could give me any advice. Someone has offered to sell me a VOX AC15 twin for £170 (about $275) - it's not in great condition (one of the channels is knackered and one of the handles is missing and replaced with rope!). However, it is an original 60's JMI model and the working channel sounds pretty nifty. Apparently The Beatles used to use AC15's or something. Just wondered if anyone could give me a bit of guidance - is it a worthwile purchase or a waste of cash?

Appreciate any tips. Ta.

Welcome Big Cal. Condition is everything when trying to place a value on these old amps. I'd jump at the chance to buy an AC-15, but it should be in a un-butchered condition. If something don't work, it can be fixed. New handles that are duplicates of the originals are available. If the chassis or cab has been drilled up or sawed into, I'd probably still buy it, but for less money. Is there any way you can post a picture? These are great old amps, and a part of rock&roll history.

Thanks for your info TimC. Sounds like you know your stuff. I would probably say it's not quite butchered and there's been no chassis drilling, but it certainly looks like it has been thrashed to hell on the gig circuit.

I could probably get some pics of it. Do you think it's likely I'd end up paying out more money to get it repaired than I payed for the entire amp in the first place? Also, probably a dumb question (I don't know a lot about amps), but do you know if the AC15 Twin would have the same power as an AC30 in terms of wattage?

Big Cal, some folks call being "trashed to hell" as "honest wear". These are the ones that are trying to sell you the amp. Rebuilding that old amp could indeed cost a lot of bucks. It's more a labor of love than anything. I've got several amps that I've spent more money fixing than I could ever get back by selling them. The AC15 has about 1/2 the power ( half the watts, but about 3/4 or so of the volume, that's just the way it works ) of the AC30. When these old amps are gone, they are gone forever, so I'd spend a few bucks trying to save one.

An AC15 Twin for $275? If you don't buy it, I will. Very Happy It's worth restoring these great amps and using them as intended. The market has gone crazy with collectors driving up prices out of reach of us normal folks, so when something like this jumps up, I'd take advantage.

Good luck and enjoy,
