folks,
anyone know of any issues in going from DI Out on a combo into a Head and Cab?
combo is 175w 15", head is 300w, cabinet 400w 4x10".
probably a stupid question really, but just curious...
combo - small venues
head&cab - mid venues
combo & head&cab - bigger venues with in house rig
what you reckon? |

I am assuming you are talking about bass.
In theory, that is a workable idea. Although 300 watts is generally enough, sometimes guitarists play so loud that you still can't hear yourself. If you switched to an 8x10 cab you will move a lot more air.
If you are playing a large venue (w/large PA) your DI should be going to the board. Loud stage volume for extended periods can damage your hearing, just ask Pete Townshend. Tinnitus is no laughing matter.
If you absolutely have to have ear splitting stage volume, consider hearing protection. I personally could never use ear plugs because I didn't like the way it sounded. Now I just have a loud ringing in my ears and my family has to talk real loud or I can't hear them. |
