I'm looking at changing my sound ... perhaps for the better ... perhaps just sidestepping.

I want a fat, chunky sound ... with searing hot leads and clean cleans. I want valve. I love my current amp, but wanna go for a 3 channel badboy.

I used to own the JCM 2000 TSL60 head. Good amp. But i don't want that.

I currently have a JCM 900 4500 head. Good amp.

Anyways ... any quality 3 channel amps ... not obscene prices... Mesa is out! lol...

Smile

Technically I think its only a 2 cahnnel, but there is an amp that I've been
casually eyeing. Used its reasonable for what you get. I've never personally
had one, but the look rather decent.

The website also has videos for sound files if your interested.

I'm not saying its the final answer to your question, just an option to look
into. Let us know if/when/what you decide on, would you?

Can I ask why mesa are out? And why 3 channels? The F-50 and F-100 are amazing amps. (and sell cheap)

Maybe look into XXX or JSX if you really need 3ch.

Mesa are out ... because here in the UK, Mesa is really over priced. Horrifically over priced.

Gotcha Wink

Doesn't the UK have the Laney GH and VH series? I have a GH50L (single channel) and it's amazing. The VH100L is 2 channel + Drive.

Prolly not many Peavey's there, huh?

I was looking at the Peavey XXX second hand ... and I was looking at Laney's ... but I'm not sure ...

The triple channel laney is out and that looks ok ...

It's such a hard thing to think about too ... because there aren't any big ole shops with loads of amps here ... Sad

Laney is voiced more towards a Hot Rodded JCM800 while the XXX is voiced more towards a Super High gain Mesa Recto. I owned both and the XXX was okay, but the Laney + G-Flex = badass.

Ok ...

update...

I have gone off the idea of the three channel amp.

I can't believe I never tried this before ...

I have a JCM900 head. I just tried something I read online ....

I'm running it on the clean channel. Ignoring the distortion channel.

I have the gain on 10 on the clean channel ... and volume to whatever needs to be ....

I can control my clean/cruch VERY well with the volume pots on my Gibson Les Paul ... and for boosts, I'm running straight through the Zakk Wylde ZW-44 pedal ... gain on 10. Volume and tone quite low.

This is giving me a beautifully warm, crisp, responsive distorted tone. VERY VERY nice. It's not metally gain, yet I can pull off Zakk style harmonics at all times if I choose. It's stunning to hear! I'm ... well, happy as hell!

Ok, so lead boosts... I'm using a 7 band EQ (Danelectro... will get BOSS or MXR for the solidity of it)... boosting the mids just a TINY amount, gives me lots of extra push and cut into the sound.

So technically, using the volume pots, I can get around 4 sounds ... clean, crunch, hard rockin' rhythm, and pushed lead.

I'm so short sighted sometimes and didn't even consider reading up on this stuff.

My problem is this ... I always want the distortion of my amp to be awesome. Well, the JCM900 is too metally on the lead channel. But the clean is LOVELY! So, boosting with the ZW basically pushes the clean channel to become a rock monster!

On a related subject ... I also, last night, purchased the SD-1 Boss pedal. I'm going to test out both the ZW and the BOSS and see which one gives me the tone I want. So far, the ZW is ... mindblowing. But I'm gonna see how the BOSS sounds too.

Thanks for the advice everyone... I think for now, I'll stick with my current setup! Well... I'll get a 4x12 Smile

Carvin v3 can be had for around 900. Just make sure to change the tubes for good ones.
