I know it sounds stupid but I cannot find any info about my Marshall head on the net.

Its a 2553 head, but it's not the 2553 Silver Jubilee Anniversary. It doesnt have have '25 years of marshall' or whatever it is written on it, and the front plate isnt chrome. but those are the only ones detailed on the internet.

The only 2553 I've ever seen on the net which is just like mine is a picture of it at this studio website:

Can anyone tell me if I just have a weird black version of the silver jubilee edition or is it something else.

I don't really know that much about amps, but I had a look inside and the tubes are made by Svetlana, if that helps

Also any idea how much it's worth? - not that I'd ever sell it as it sounds wonderful

Thanks

Alan

Hi Alan,

Your head is a Jubilee, just not a Silver Jubilee. Marshall continued to make the Jubilee amps in 1988 and 1989, but went to black tolex and called them the "Custom Series", with the designation "JS" preceding the model number. The silver tolex was used for the year 1987 only. 'The History of Marshall' claims the 2553 was discontinued when the Custom Series was launched, but I believe that's wrong as I've seen black 2553 heads and you have one right in front of you. I think the mini head was continued on a limited run into 1988.

I have both a Silver 2553 head and a full-size black 2550 head. Concerning value, the Silver amps hold a much higher value since they were a limited special run. The black 2553 heads might be a bit more valuable than the full-size black heads as you see fewer of them, but generally the black-tolex Jubilees can be had for around $600-$800, while the Silver heads usually start at about $1500.
