I wouldn't remove any tubes uless you know exactly what function each tube has and its position. Remove the wrong ones and you start cooking expensive transformers and various circuits. You can buy an attenuator, that will do the job, but will decrease your tube life because you are running them fully cranked all the time. The best - but not cheapest - solution is to buy a smaller amp that will give you the sound you want at a lower volume. For that, you need to talk to our moderator ~T~, he is the king of small boutique amps.

Do not bother with an attenuator. Get a guitar preamp--not a fuzz tone--or get an overdrive. Drive your input as hard as you need and you'll approximate the tone you'll get when driving the amp hard--not identical but very nice!

Hi,
First post so hello all !
If your handy with a solder iron there is a very easy mod that you can add to quieten your amp natrually.
Is a Mosfet regulator attenuation "thing"... Sounds awesome.. Since discovering this little mod I have never looked back from creamy overdriven tones that lose hardly any tone when the volume is reduced..
The schematic for the mod is from here if your interested.
It works for Fixed bais amps as well as cathode bias, but the cathode bias is a snip to do.. Very Happy (I think your amp is cathode bias)
